Dealing with Project based Work in an Uncertain Market
As the market expands and contracts it’s anything but predictable, especially in the past decade and recently the downturn in 2008 to current uncertain recovery. Whether you’re pursuing a Full Time Job or wanting to engage in opportunities as either a W2 Contractor or 1099 Consultant, you need to know the playing field, your odds and manner you choose to land.

Speaker: David C. Krull
David is a long time TLA Member and Facilitator for the TLA Evening Meetings. He is an accomplished and award winning IT Infrastructure Project Management/Document Management Leader and Process Improvement Specialist. Since the stock market fall of 2000/2002 David has been involved in various W2 and 1099 short and long term engagements. In January 2010, David had given a presentation to over 250 in attendance at Harper College titled “The Life Cycle and Tools of Today’s Job Search” and was the keynote speaker. The guest speaker that shared the stage with David was Illinois Representative Mark Walker, who spoke on the state of the economy and jobs in Illinois.

David will show his progression through the job market and how he landed opportunities. Should you wait for a full time job, or try contracting? Especially if you are not seeing any full time jobs that you may like or be a fit for. David will walk you through some of the commonly used processes and tools, whether you’re a contractor under a (W2) or a consultant under a (1099), or even engaged in a corp to corp. During this presentation he will also provide some free give away MS Excel Workbook/Worksheets to help you through your own job search. Wherever you’re at in your career and job search, these tools and reference materials can help to save you time and aggravation.

Topics covered:
• Choosing to work with staff augmentation companies, or dealing direct with companies
• The life cycle and timing on how select the contract/consulting opportunities that are right for you
• Example time sheets, invoices and other deliverables for you to use on any contracting/consulting engagements
• Which events to attend to learn, speak and network at to stimulate business development for ongoing opportunities
• Considerations for additional streams of income, which shouldn’t conflict with your primary engagement

Check out David’s Social Media Web 2.0 web site that shows places to network at and get information that can help your during and after your search, visit – http://pifnetworkinggroup.ning.comn David is planning on releasing a series of articles; Becoming a Change Agent in a Changing Job Market, The Life of a Contractor-Living on the Edge, Contractors are People too and Ground Hog Day Job Search and will be just some of the articles to start out with, in a new blog he’s planning on releasing.

Technology Leaders Association (TLA) was established to help senior level IT executives develop and manage their careers. As part of this effort, we hold monthly meetings to network, share ideas, and learn from featured guest speakers in the career management field.

STRUCTURED NETWORKING:
Structured networking is a technique used at most major executive transition groups. It is meant to be a powerful method of generating ideas that might help each of our searches.

During this process, we will quickly brainstorm potential job lead ideas, gain networking contacts at desired companies, and generate advice from the members by sharing our backgrounds as well as our career objectives.

It is designed to generate ideas, but given the time constraints, not get into immediate detailed discussions. You should plan on following up with anybody who may have had an interesting idea or a good contact.

Please bring business cards, handbills (career overview) or resumes (plain paper is fine) to pass around if you have them. Figure on about 20 copies of the resumes/handbills and 50 business cards.

We will run our networking, dividing the room into small tables of a maximum of6 people and doing 2 table rotations before our speaker begins.

At each rotation, you will have 90 seconds for your pitch and about 90 seconds for Q&A.

SPEND NO MORE THAN 1/3
-summarizing your past (this is not the time to rehash your resume),
-what you are looking for, and
-what we can do to help (such as target contacts) or ask for advice on an issue.

Date of Event:
09/09/2010 - 6:30pm - 9:00pm
